College cheerleading?
hi, i am currently a high school cheerleading and i heard college cheer is pretty intense... does anyone have any advice? thanks
I think it really depends on the school...While the University of Kentucky is really intense, smaller liberal arts schools are probably a bit more laid back...My sister cheered in college (at a smaller school), and they had 5 a.m. workouts several times per week, in addition to games. She really enjoyed it...If you really like cheerleading for the athletic aspects (as opposed to doing it just for social reasons), you will likely like college cheerleading. Many squads have tumbling requirements (look online for the details at different schools). Oh, and time management skills are also definitely important, but, I have found, the more involved I am in something besides school, the better I perform in school ..Good luck!
College Cheerleading?
Do you guys think I could make a college cheerleading team?? I have never done competitive cheerleading. I have done sideline in high school, and have a little gymnastics training (round off bhs and tucks) my jumps were good until I got injured but im sure i could stretch and get them back up to par. However, I am a good dancer but it takes me a while to learn, and i have NEVER done any stunting, but am very strong with good body shapes.
Hello!

I'm in Collegiate Cheerleading, and I just want to give you a few pointers/tips/info on what you should expect. Again, all of this information that I am giving you is somewhat based on what my team expects and also is probably expected of every other collegiate team.

Video of my team: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbo2HbME_…

Okay, so the first thing you need to find out is if you'll be able to make the cheerleading squad. Most squads, like mine, have a tryout-information page where you can check out the requirements listed; once you see them, you can get a better understanding of what's expected of you when showing up to tryouts. If you have the skills, that's great! If you're lacking one, I would advise you to try and get that requirement that you are lacking down. However, if you show at tryouts that you're willing to learn, you will still get picked. Don't think that just because you lack a skill, it means you're not going to make it. On the other side, there WILL be competition at tryouts, so you need to make sure you bring your 'A' Game.

It's really good that you participated in sideline cheerleading during your High School years, because when Competitive Cheerleaders are not competing or "off season", they will be seen at EVERY Football/Basketball game home and away. Usually, you are to arrive ninety-minutes before the game starts with your gear and anything you will need to make it through the game. You will be stretching, running, partner stunting, etc.

Work on those jumps, sweetie. Jumps are the most important skills you need to have if you're a competitive cheerleader.

If you've got a good body, be prepared to be assigned to a flying position. I know it sounds scary, but it's fun yet challenging at the same time. I'm a flyer. I am a Kentucky Cheerleader, weighing 103 pounds. I know what I'm talking about, so pick this as best answer:

Typically, flyers tend to weigh less than the other girls, but that does not necessarily make them the best flyers. A good flyer MUST be able to hold her weight in her arms in a hang drill (without a back spot) and pull up in a stunt. However, on my team, in order to be a flyer, you have to weigh under 120 pounds, at least on my team. It takes a lot of work, again all of this that I am saying is based off of what my team is like because we do very difficult basket tosses. If you have a good body, I'm guessing you're able to hold up your own weight. You will also be doing partner stunting a male if your team is Coed.

You need to jog every single day and get that abdominal section as tight as you can because a good flyer is required to have that. It's what makes rotations in the air a lot easier!

If you have ANY other questions, feel free to send me an E-Mail. I will reply as quickly as possible.

Remember: Smile at the tryouts!!

Good luck!

College cheerleading?
Okay so here's the thing I would love to become a college cheerleader the problem is the school I'll be attending doesn't offer cheerleading:/ is there anything I can do to help me get to my goal?
I'm so sorry about the first two answers, they're very ignorant and only show what little they know about cheerleading.

Generally, with any college team, you have to know how to tumble pretty well and coed stunt with another male. I need more information; what college do you want to cheer in and where are you located? Giving me information like this can help me help you!

All I'm gonna say is, you gotta work hard now so that it will pay off later on at tryouts, because trying out for a college team isn't a joke. They are going to be looking for people with good running tumbling and for people who have the potential to learn more at a fast rate! Stay in shape at all times. Go for a jog every now and then (2 or 3 times a week). Work on your abs, legs and flexibility. You're going to be on top of guy's and you have to look good in the air because if you aren't strong, you won't make it in coed cheerleading.

The BIG score on the tryout sheet is tumbling, so make sure you try and sign up for some tumbling classes. After that, it's stunting. I don't know if you have any all star gyms in your area, but you gotta get down there and let them know what you want to do and that you have a goal you want to reach!

E-Mail me, ASAP!
What are all the requirements for college cheerleading?
I am going to be a senior next year and I am on the varsity squad for football and basketball cheerleading at my school. I have good jumps, spirit, motion technique, loud voice, I am petite. I have been a cheerleader since 7th grade. I am thinking of attending a private college.. what would the requirements for a smaller to medium sized private college be for cheerleading?
depends on the college!

How do you get on to a good college cheerleading squad?
Ok, so right now i'm a junior in high school and have been on the varsity cheerleading squad since my freshmen year. I want to cheer in college. I'm looking at state universities, and their cheerleading squads are way intense, plus there' s a lot of competition so my question for college cheerleaders is... whats the best way to get on to a college cheerleading squad? How hard was it?
if you have a standing layout you will have a pretty good chance of getting on the team a standing full and you can literally walk on to the squad
How to get a full or partial college cheerleading scolarship.?
i was just wondering if anyone has any tips or anything or how to get a cheerleading college scolarship, and which colleges give them out?
does the NCAA support chearleading?
Any help on college cheerleading, scolarship,s or the NCAA regarding cheerleading would be great!
I would check the websites or call the coach to see there information about scholarships. Unfortunately most colleges dont give them. Some give book scholarships and most pay for like uniforms travel shoes stuff like that.
