| Basically treat customers in an impersonal way, i.e. leave them pick titles without harassing them (neither by "recommending" titles or by monitoring them closely), try not to engage in small talk or keep them waiting for change since most people want to get out as quickly as possible. Also, and especially with opposite-sex customers, try to avoid eye contact as much as possible. (Then again, my experience comes from a small city, so privacy is important). My experience is that people like to take their time selecting titles or browsing, but once their choice is made they want to get out, and not being recognised. Even though you may start spotting "regulars", I basically recommend treating them as if it were the first time you see them. |

| PDiane is exactly right! The city is actively trying to close down these businesses. This includes adult "spas", gentlemen's clubs, and adult bookstores. The clubs have recently appealed to the Supreme Court that the new ordinances are unconstitutional, and if they lose the appeal, there is no other outlet for them to turn to. It's very difficult to find a location that fits the new requirements as well. There are strict laws on the books that limit how close an SOB can be to a school, church, library, etc. These laws also dictate who can work there, lighting levels, private rooms, and more. | I worked at a strip club as a DJ and there was a video store on the premises. Video sales did well, but most of the sales profits came from toys and novelties. There was minimal interest in rentals... to the point where renting was discontinued due to lack of profits. Where the big money came from was video viewing booths... mostly because it's where married men made rendezvous with anonymous men for sexual encounters... it was really gross, but huge profits there.
